European Beer Bloggers Conference: A Loose Plan

For the benefit of several readers: my loose itinerary for the European Beer Bloggers Conference in Edinburgh, Thursday 11 to Sunday 14

Thursday

Take a high-speed Peugeot 106 to Cardiff Airport, ploughing across several fields before stitching across the runway, diving out and catching the 08:55 flight to Edinburgh.  Look for a man from Newport called Rob Gale. Insert obligatory Nixon gesture.

Land some 2-3 hours later, commandeer the nearest Airlink 100 and make for the Bow Bar on Bow Street. Meet up with Steve Lamond and follow the general wave of drinking across the city centre until around 4pm. Splinter off and meet up with Leigh Linley and Chris Hall at the train station.

Either check-in to the hotel or the pub. I don’t know which hotel I’m staying at so I can’t check in until Chris Hall arrives, as he handled the accommodation arrangements for this dangerous assignment. Understand the lay of the land and the major routes to and from the hotel before setting out for the 7pm EBBC pub crawl. Crawl from pub to pub to hotel to bed.

Friday

Locate a solid, full Scottish breakfast, in spite of the apocalyptic heat wave which is forecast to raze the city to the ground. Enjoy a gentle entry into the posted schedule for the conference, return to hotel at the end of conference, freshen up, go to pub.

Saturday

Locate a solid, full Scottish breakfast, in spite of the apocalyptic heat wave which is forecast to raze the city to the ground. Enjoy a gentle entry into the posted schedule for the conference, return to hotel at the end of conference, freshen up, go to pub.

Sunday

Rise early due to caffeine-induced heart palpitations, flee hotel around 7am in search of a café capable of serving a pint of tea. Fail in quest for tea and head to airport. Insert obligatory Nixon reference. Depart for Rhoose International Airport, 12 miles outside of Cardiff, at 11:55 and hope the booze doesn’t take hold. Swear blood-oath to ruin friend’s existence when he forgets to pick me up from the airport, walk home to shake off 3-day hangover.

  1. I’ll deal with the hotel. They have our Press Credentials at the desk. You’ll just make them dangerously excited. I’ll order us some grapefruits and a Mini Magnum.
